I am so blessed by God. I can shout out "I am blessed" a hundred times and these words will never lose meaning for me.

I have been so worried lately, mainly about work and taking on a huge role that would really challenge me to think and act in ways I never have. But God has been pressing this piece of scripture to me:

"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." - Phillipians 4:6-7 (NLT)

I struggle with coming to God earnestly and with an open heart to just pray about the things that worry me. I always think that God is too busy to worry about my tiny problems. But like Pastor Lori mentioned tonight, God's love is not a piece of pie that you can just cut up in slices and allocate methodically to each person. God's love is bountiful and endless. God wants you to come to Him with all your worries, prayers and requests. He loves just the fact that you are coming to Him because He wants us to walk hand in hand with Him.

It's funny because last week, our task was to partner up with someone and pray about them, letting the Holy Spirit guide us to find a scripture that we would provide for our partner. My partner, Sarah, gives me this:

How amazing and INTENTIONAL is God? I have been feeling complacent in my faith lately only because I haven't been letting anything happen in my life, good or bad. I read this which really stirred me:

"Believe it or not, the two most prevalent things that stop a move of God from happening in your life and church is not sin, but complacency and busyness."

This is exactly what is happening in my life. I find myself so busy with other things that I am pushing myself away from hearing the whisper of the Holy Spirit. Lord I pray you that you continue to stir something in my life so that I do not fall into complacency and that I will not be too occupied to take time and open myself in an honest, and earnest way to you God. When I come to you Lord, only good things happen and I thank you for each and every blessing.

You spend the whole day worrying about trivial things, and then the reality of life happens. People get sick. They get really sick. So I pray for this man I don't even know, I pray with all my heart for this sick man's soul. I pray that he regain his life and live to know Your name, Lord.

I am going to start a new collection of posts where I ask some high level questions regarding God and Christianity and begin to provide some answers and explanations.

I don't share this feeling openly, but I want to express it now. From the moment I was baptized, I felt like I started a new life and that all the sins from my old life were washed away and I was made clean and pure again. I remember my old life before coming to Christ and it felt like this: darkness, pain, happiness that was momentary and fleeting, helplessness, loneliness. I can visibly measure the difference between my life in death vs my life in Christ. I can't help but feel a sense of blessing that I can relate to non-Christians because not too long ago, I was there and I had the same burning questions about God, heaven, Christianity, Jesus.

I always have high level questions that are never easy to answer. So I hope that by writing about them, it will prompt someone else to think about the answers, further discuss it and hopefully ask more questions. It is important to keep in mind that we don't have the answers to all questions. Some things are just not meant for us to know. I cannot accept that things happen chaotically in the world with no reason or no purpose. Life is not one big coincidence and I have my personal testimonies to attest that conjecture. But if we can attain a certain amount of understanding on why things happen, I personally think it might bring people closer to God.

My first question was: Why did God create different religions?

The unifying belief regarding most religions is the belief in the one true God. Through Christianity, there is the belief in Christ (the son of God) and Catholicism focuses on Mary, the mother of Jesus. Judaism focuses on the law of the Old Testament in the days of Moses while Islam focuses on the prophet Muhammad.

The answer is this: God did not create the different religions to be apart from Christianity; it was created through the works of man. Take Islam for example. In the beginning, there was Abraham and Sarah and they had no children, but God made a covenant with Abraham that he would have a son.

And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.” Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.”
- Genesis 15:4-5

For another ten years, Sarah remained childless so she suggested that Abraham have a child with her servant, Hagar. This very sin, the sin of impatience and failing to trust in God, led to the birth of Abraham's first son, Ishmael. God finally fulfilled his promise with Sarah and she gave birth to Isaac when Abahram was 100 years ago. However, this created a split in religions, with people believing that Ishmael was Abraham's true heir and he became the patriarch to what would be the Islamic religion today.

Although people worshiped God, over time, they pick and chose what they believed in and this led to the creation of different sects and denominations. God created Judaism, focusing on the laws and the covenant in the Old Testament. However, the Israelites continually sinned against God, disobeying the Lord and forgetting all the great works that God had provided for them. The old testament was meant to be "prepatory, temporary, limited" and often foreshadowed the coming of the Christ (the Messiah) who would make all things "complete, eternal, universal." But when God sent his son Jesus, people were divided and the Israelites continued to believe that no one else other than the Jews were the "chosen ones" which created the split between Judaism and Christianity.

This led me to ask the next question: Why didn't God step in to stop man from creating different religions?

The simple answer is this: God did not create us to be robots. He gave us free will to make our own decisions and have our own beliefs. Bad things may happen and different religions may arise, but there are things in this world that happen beyond our understanding. We just have to remain hopeful that in the suffering, it may produce faith and bring people back to God.

My last question was: What happens to people in other countries with no access to God?

The answer is this: No matter where you are, God will make his presence known to you. God can come to you in your sleep and completely transform you, as he did with Saul of Tarsus who became Paul the Apostle. For those who have not heard of Jesus, they will be judged by the law of God that would be placed in their hearts.

For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness, and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.
- Romans 2:14-16

It's funny how one question can lead into so many more. But hopefully by continuing to ask questions, we become more understanding of God's ways and understanding of things that happen beyond our control.

As Jesus was entering Jericho, he gave a blind man the ability to see.

The keys to receiving a miracle...

1. SEIZE THE MOMENT
- The blind man called out to Jesus as the "Son of David"

2. TAME YOUR FEAR
- You cannot have fear and faith
- Jesus cares about us all of the same

3. ANNOUNCE YOUR FAITH
- Jesus stopped for the blind man. Bold, persistent faith gets the attention of Jesus
- Jesus asked, "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus already knew he was blind. He asked the question to teach the blind man that he needed to announce his needs
- The blind man said, "LORD, I want to see"

4. RECEIVE YOUR MIRACLE
- Jesus said, "Receive your sight, your faith has healed you." Jesus restored his sight

5. TAKE THE NEXT STEP
- The man now follows Jesus. When you receive your miracle, continue to follow Jesus. If you only follow Jesus for what he does, you are not a true believer. You have to follow Jesus for who he is
- Never stop giving the LORD thanks for what He does

When you are sinking...

1. You can't see your way
2. You feel you are on your own
3. You feel you are out of your comfort zone
4. Strong forces are against you
5. You are struggling but failing

... What does Jesus do?
1. He prays for you before it happens
2. He notices your struggle
3. He comes at your moment of desperation
4. He shows you His true identity

What should you do when you are sinking?
1. Have courage because Jesus is with you - moving forward despite of the fear
2. Take a risk in faith - It is safer to be where Jesus is in the storm than in the safety of a boat without Jesus
3. Stay focused on Jesus - or else you will sink. There will always be critics telling you what you can or cannot do, but keep your eyes on Jesus or else fear would creep in
4. Don't doubt - believe your beliefs and doubt your doubts. Never negotiate with the devil, go to the bible
5. Praise God - give him thanks

Elijah was a prophet in the time of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. King Ahab worshipped the false God, Ba'al and put a bounty out to kill Elijah.

These are the phases of his faith:

1. Kerith: The RAVINE
God hides Elijah in this ravine but the ravine dries up because there was no rain in the land. Why does God let our brooks dry up?
- To keep you from DEPENDING on the brook. You don't know God is all you need until God is all you have
- To move you to a BETTER PLACE
- To prove that God has not FORGOTTEN YOU. When you feel like your situation isn't changinv, God still cares about you

2. Journey North: The ROAD OF UNCERTAINTY
God wantes Elijah to go back to Queen Jezebel's hometown, Zarephath and meet a widow there. Why? We have to remember that...
- The path to a miracle is always through UNCOMFORTABLE TERRITORY
- The source of a miracle is often UNEXPECTED
- The pattern for a miracle is COMMAND, PROMISE, RISK. Elijah had to have faith to go back

3. Zarephath: THE REFINERY OF DIFFICULTY
When Elijah went to Zarephath, the widow was there and he asked for water and bread. She did not have enough food. Elijah said, "Do not be afraid" and told the widow to still make a bread for him and then for herself and her son. The Lord said her jar of flour and jug of oil will never run out. She made bread every day and the food never ran out.

Over time, her son grew sick and died. Elijah took the sick boy and stretched himself three times, crying to the LORD. The boy 's life returned to him. We don't believe in miracles today, but we should consider this...
- Miracles are not as much about US as they are about GOD
- Your STARTING POINT matters. Don't start off complaining about your pain. Don't worship God for what He does, you should worship God for who He is
- Everything in the universe is either CAUSED by God or ALLOWED by God, no third category. Evil wants to destroy us, but God who causes and allows can also change things for us. All we have to do is ask for these miracles.

2. The DECLARATIVE GIFTS
- A word of prophecy is a message of ENCOURAGEMENT from God

Learning about speaking in tongues...

The Holy Spirit guides you and empowers you. There are two types of tongues. Public tongues and this is meant for a church to encourage them. It is God speaking to a church for them to be edified and requires an interpretation. The other is devotional tongues which is you speaking and praising to God, doesn't require translation and will edify and encourage you.

Why speak in tongues daily? It expresses worship, it expresses effective intercession (when you don't know what to pray, the spirit prays through you because it knows what's in your heart. Sometimes you will pray for other things happening around you that you don't even know what is happening.) It expresses the mysteries of the divine. Lastly, it expresses confidence.

I've been focusing on a lot of confusing thoughts these days. It's given me this sense of urgency to put myself out there and lay my heart out on the line.

What does the bible say? The clear answer is to be patient and not to rush into things. In Genesis, the LORD made a covenant with Sarah that her and Abraham would bear a son. For many years, she waited and waited and it never happened and she grew impatient. She then insisted her handmaiden, Hagar, to conceive a child with Abraham and they bore the son, Ishmael. Sarah then resented both Hagar and Ishmael and suffered the consequences of her impatience. Ishmael was not the promised child, but the LORD promised to multiply his descendants (sidenote: this is where Christianity and Islam split). Years later, Sarah finally bore the promised son, Isaac and in her old age, she laughed. If she had been patient to begin with, she wouldn't have had to go through the hardship involving her handmaiden Hagar and Hagar's son, Ishamel and she wouldn't have been filled with so much bitterness and hatred. The LORD wants us to be patient and be obedient to Him.

What should I do? Proverbs 16

To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue.

I can try and plan out my life from beginning to the end. I have the freedom and dominion to make my own decisions. However, no matter how much I plan and no matter what I do, the LORD controls my fate. So never act out of feeling, act out of faith.

All a person's ways seem pure to them, but motivates are weighed by the LORD.

We live by the laws and morals of this earth, but these laws and morals mean nothing unless they come from the LORD.

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Whatever you do, keep your promises to God and trust that He always has the best plans for you - even if you don't understand his plans, even if you have to wait patiently for a long time like Sarah did, even if it means pain and hardship for now.

The LORD works out everything to its proper end - even the wicked for a day of disaster.

Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.
Don't act on your feeling or emotions. Be patient and in that time of waiting, you may be surprised to learn something new from God that may alter your decision.

The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.
God is in control of everything. You make decisions, you use your intelligence, you use your skill and you act upon it. But the results of the actions, all of the good things, they come from God. Bad things can come from God too. There is no good that comes from evil, and if you think there is, then it is not good and you are being deceived. Be careful because the devil tricks us in so many ways. If you put a frog in boiling water, it will jump right out of there. However, if you put a frog in tepid water and turn up the heat slowly and gradually, the frog will sit there until its skin burns off. The frog does not know what is happening to him, and that's exactly how the devil operates with us. In your lifetime, you will be tempted, you will be lied to, you will be persuaded and you will be corrupted. Know that all good things come from God and God only and do not be corrupted by the ways of the earth because there is only one way: God's way.

These are some powerful scriptures.

"Many words mark the speech of a fool" - Ecclesiastes 5:3

"It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it. Do not let your mouth lead you into sin" - Ecclesiastes 5:5-6

"The more talk, the less truth; the wise measure their words. The speech of a good person is worth waiting for; the blabber of the wicked is worthless" - Proverbs 10:19-20 MSG

We have to be careful with our words. Let's make everything we say, count.

Gift Giving

1. Devise an intentional strategy.
- God was very intentional when He created us. He knew everything about us

2. Decide who you're going to bless
- Who do you really want to give gifts to this season? Not, who you need
- Sometimes you need to share the gift of Christ so that they can experience God's love
- How can you be a blessing to those less fortunate than us who do not register on anyone else's Christmas list?
- We are all on God's list

3. Determine how much you are willing to spend
- Do not spend too much money on Christmas hoopla if it takes you away from God

4. Demonstrate your thoughtfulness with a personal gift
- The best gift is one that is personal, that comes from us knowing the person and knowing their needs
- God is the ultimate gift giver. God knows us and knows what we need. He gives us exactly what we need right at the exact moment

Christmas is about God's love for us.

This makes me sad for the world.

Today, I was reminded that we cannot allow ourselves to be morally corrupted by society norms. We are constantly bombarded with images of sex, drugs and violence and yet we allow ourselves to be desensitized by these images.  The edgier or racier it gets, the more the moral boundaries are pushed to the point where we complacently accept this as part of our culture. Look at how things have changed in the last 30 years. Our youth is growing up in a world where they perceive bullying (in schools and on the internet) is okay, where affairs are not a big deal, image and money is everything and that Christianity is just another bullshit religion that brainwashes people into taking your money. It only terrifies me to think what this world is going to look like in the next 30 years. Our society thinks we are becoming more liberal and free, but we are only heading towards death and destruction.

" So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.
- Colossians 2:6-8

James 4:13-17

1. The future is uncertain
- You go to this city and that city and you make money, but where is Jesus? You have to bring Jesus into every aspect of your life
- Many people believe in God, but they act as if He doesn't exist
- You have to live out your faith everyday

2. Life is fragile
- The moment you are born, you are destined to die. Our life is a mist, it appears and then it is gone

3. We must live by faith
- Don't number your days, number your years
- Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to meet a tomato in your fruit salad
- You cannot be dependent on yourself, you must be dependent on Lord Jesus
- Jesus said, my food is to do the will of the Lord
- Its not what you do for God, it's what God is willing to do through you

4. Our obedience must be fervent
- All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing
- Wouldn't it be wonderful if you found out you had a month to live, you will not have anything to change
- What should you do? Live passionately, love completely, learn humbly, leave boldly
- Life is short. Death is sure. Sin is the curse. Christ is the cure
- Jesus is the answer to life's problems
- It's never to late to be what you might have been
- Though no one can go back to make a brand new start, anyone can start now and make a brand new ending
- Treat people as if this will be the last time you will see them
- Make sure everything is right with people around you. People matter more than things
